Lubbock resident Sheryl McLeod is no stranger to being a part of a tattoo and body piercing business.
McLeod, a lifelong tattoo artist, opened her first tattoo studio in 2004 and has worked at several other salons over the years.
“When you’re starting out you want to be able to take pride in your work and I want to take that pride,” McLeod told CNN.
“I want to make sure the client feels good about what they’re getting.”
Tattoo parlors, or salons, have become increasingly popular in the United States in recent years.
According to the Tattoo Industry Association, salons are now the third largest tattoo parlour in the country.
Many salons specialize in traditional tattooing, but tattoo parlor chains are expanding their offerings.
McLean’s tattoo studio, Tanning Salon Fremont, is one of them.
McLeod, who has worked as a tattoo artist in Lubbocks for almost 10 years, said that while she has seen a spike in demand for tattoo parlocations in the last year or so, the demand for her products is higher than ever.
“I’ve seen the growth of tattoo parlovations.
You can go to a tattoo parleva in Litchfield, Iowa, and you’ll find people there are looking for tattoos, they’re looking for piercings,” McLean said.
I’ve been doing this for 10 years and it’s a great experience.
When I first started, I would have my clients come to me and they would be like, ‘Oh my God, I love the tattoo parlva.
I’ve never had a tattoo before.’
But now I see it’s really a huge market.
“You can have the tattoo in a different location and the customer can be in a tattoo shop and have the customer come in and get it done.
I think that’s really important.”
The owner of Tanning Salons, Sheryl McClane, is a certified tattoo parlayr and she works to create a unique experience for clients.
In the past three years, she has opened two salons in Littlestown and Lubbocker, Texas, and said she expects to expand to other parts of the country soon.
While she has noticed a slight uptick in demand from her clients, she said that overall, the tattoo business is still a relatively small one.
“It’s kind of hard to compete against someone that’s making their living selling tattoos,” McClane said.
“I’m doing it for myself, for my customers.
If you look at other companies, they have the same type of tattooing as me, they get the same prices, they offer the same services and the same quality.”
McLane said that her clients love working at her tattoo studio because they know that the work is personal.
“If I don’t make the right tattoo for them, they will leave,” she said.
“The customer is always there, and that’s what makes it special.”
McClane said she is always on the lookout for new talent to work at her salon.
“There are some new people coming in every day.
I have some new guys that come in every week, and I’m just happy to have them here,” she added.
